What should you prioritize in Episode 4?

Original-game reference; remaster route verification pending. This page reveals Episode 4’s investigation and destination choices. Complete A Crooked Mile first. The remaster comparison records the features confirmed for the new edition; this route does not claim a remaster playthrough.

The investigation shifts from a single suspect toward the machinery keeping Fabletown’s residents in debt and silence. Pay attention to who supplies money, magic, and enforcement. Your practical objective is to recover the missing Magic Mirror piece and use the repaired Mirror to locate the Crooked Man.

What happens during Bigby’s recovery?

Dr. Swineheart treats Bigby’s injuries while Snow and Colin discuss what has happened. Follow the treatment prompts. The conversation about Colin asks whether Bigby will uphold the rule that non-human Fables must live at the Farm, or allow a friend to remain in his apartment. It establishes a position, but it should not be confused with direct control over every later administrative decision.

Nerissa then tries to communicate something important. Listen to her references to the ribbon and to what she cannot say. Attempting to remove it is a decision about whether to respect her warning; it is not a required investigative action. The scene is designed to make the limitation visible before the final episode explains more.

What do Beauty and Beast add to the case?

Visit Beauty and Beast and hear how their financial difficulties connect to the Crooked Man’s operation. Their account gives you the Lucky Pawn and butcher-shop leads. Consider each as part of the same network, rather than assuming that one location is a side quest you can ignore permanently.

Before leaving, inspect the conversation options and understand why they are afraid. The couple’s domestic argument and their debt are linked: Fabletown’s public promise of safety has not protected its residents from exploitation. The character guide provides a spoiler-light reminder of their roles.

Should you visit Lucky Pawn or the butcher shop first?

Go to Lucky Pawn first for Toad and Jack’s early scenes; go to the butcher shop first for the less disrupted early questioning of Johann and its records. In the original, both orders still let you recover the Mirror piece. The choice changes what is available along the way, not whether the season can be completed.

At Lucky Pawn, investigate the items and speak with Jack. The first-visit route includes Toad trying to sell Faith’s coat to pay for a glamour. The Woodsman’s axe also becomes relevant to the shop confrontation. Follow the action prompts and examine what the route leaves available afterward.

At the butcher shop, question Johann and inspect beyond the public-facing business. He is frightened, and delays allow the network to cover its tracks. The first-location choice affects the condition of the evidence. Search the available coat when the investigation leads you to it; the missing Mirror fragment is the important recovery, even though its route context can differ.

What happens when the Mirror is repaired?

Return to the Woodlands with the fragment and let Bufkin complete the repair. The discussion with Toad returns to the Farm and the cost of glamours. You can make a sympathetic promise, but do not read a dialogue commitment as an unconditional guarantee of a different ending.

Use the repaired Mirror to locate the Crooked Man’s entrance, then follow the lead. At the final meeting, Bigby can threaten the room or begin more calmly. The episode stops at the confrontation rather than offering a complete resolution. Continue with Episode 5: Cry Wolf. If collecting achievements, consult the original trophy framework before replaying scenes.

Which source verifies the branching route?

Gamepressure’s Episode 4 choices describes the shop order and differing evidence. Its Piece Together chapter covers the return to Snow and the repaired Mirror.
