The Wolf Among Us Remastered vs Original: What Changed?
Compare confirmed Noir Mode, visual upgrades, five-episode content and extras in The Wolf Among Us Remastered, with clear limits on unverified features.
What changes in The Wolf Among Us Remastered?
The clearest confirmed changes are Noir Mode, enhanced visuals and additional behind-the-scenes material. The remaster returns to the original five-episode story; it is not The Wolf Among Us 2. Steam describes the goal as honoring the original experience while updating its presentation.
That makes this primarily a presentation-and-extras comparison. If you already own the original, the buying question is whether those additions matter to your replay, rather than whether this is the next chapter of Bigby’s story. Check the release date and platform listings before choosing a copy.
| Topic | Original game | Remastered edition, as advertised |
|---|---|---|
| Story | Bigby’s first five-episode investigation | The complete five-episode story |
| Visual presentation | Original color presentation | Improved lighting, animation and environments |
| Black-and-white option | No Noir Mode advertised in original listing | New Noir Mode, switchable at any time |
| Supplemental material | Original game listing | Commentary, concept art, interviews and other archival material advertised |
| New episodes or branching ending | Original narrative | Not confirmed as an addition |
| Save import / free upgrade | Existing version’s saves and ownership | No confirmed offer or transfer spec in our reviewed sources |
How does Noir Mode work?
The official Steam and PlayStation descriptions say the entire story can be played in black and white and that you can switch between Noir Mode and the remastered look at any time. The point is a different visual reading of the same detective story, with the bright neon palette replaced by a classic noir presentation.
We have not tested a launch build, so this guide does not give an invented menu path or claim that the mode changes puzzles, dialogue or difficulty. Use the actual in-game settings once the remaster is available.

Which visual upgrades are actually confirmed?
The store copy specifically names improved lighting, updated animation, refined environments and modernized cinematic presentation. Those are the claims we can attribute to the publisher. They are not independent image-quality measurements.
A Steam gallery screenshot cannot establish a console’s native resolution, locked frame rate or HDR support. Steam’s own recommended PC note targets high settings at 1080p and 60 FPS, but that should not be repurposed as a PS5, Xbox or Switch guarantee. Our platform guide keeps that requirement sheet separate.

What bonus content is listed?
Steam advertises developer commentary, concept art, interviews, restored content and other archival materials exploring the game’s creation. The listing does not, in the material we checked, enumerate every interview or describe the precise runtime of the extras.
Read “restored content” in that context. It is not sufficient evidence for an extra episode, a different canonical ending or every cut story branch being playable. We will need the released edition or a specific official breakdown before making those narrower claims.
Will the old walkthrough still help?
The original five-episode structure is confirmed, so the original game’s narrative routes are useful preparation. Start at Faith if you want a chapter-by-chapter reference, or use the major choices overview if you are planning a replay.
However, a known original-game checkpoint or Book of Fables unlock is not automatically verified in the remaster. Our trophy guide labels that distinction. The ending analysis is protected by a spoiler disclosure and discusses the original ending, not a newly announced remaster ending.

Is it worth buying again?
For a first playthrough on a supported modern platform, compare the local price and the edition’s feature list. The remaster is marketed as the complete story with the extra presentation options. You do not need to play the original first to understand a remastered edition of that same investigation.
For a returning player, the main reasons to consider it are Noir Mode, a replay in the updated presentation and the advertised archival extras. If you only want new plot, do not buy on the assumption that this is a sequel or that “restored” promises a rewritten finale. If your original copy still works and the extras do not interest you, waiting for launch impressions is reasonable.
We have not verified pricing, discounts or a free upgrade. This page is an editorial comparison of announced features, not a review or purchase endorsement.
