Episode 3: A Crooked Mile Walkthrough
Plan the original A Crooked Mile investigation, choose a first destination, find the witch, and understand the tree and Dum decisions.
What is the key decision in A Crooked Mile?
Original-game reference; remaster route verification pending. Episode 3 spoilers follow, including its last confrontation. If you have not finished Smoke and Mirrors, return to that route first. This is a guide to the original investigation, not a guarantee that every remaster prompt or collectible trigger is unchanged.
The most practical decision is your first search location. You have limited time to pursue Crane, while Bluebeard conducts his own investigation. Choosing a destination protects an opportunity there and changes what may be left at another location. There is no route that preserves every scene in its untouched state.
How should you approach Lily’s funeral?
The episode brings Bigby to Lily’s funeral at the river. You can interrupt Snow’s speech or wait. Listening gives the scene space and establishes what the loss means to Holly and the community; interrupting expresses urgency but is not an alternate solution to the case.
After the confrontation involving the Tweedles, return to the business-office investigation. Bufkin cannot complete the Magic Mirror while a piece is missing. Examine the office and discuss the remaining leads. Rather than waiting for a repaired Mirror to solve everything, you need to locate the person who has been supplying Crane’s glamours.
Should you search Crane’s apartment or the Tweedles’ office first?
| First destination | What it preserves in the original route | What you give up |
|---|---|---|
| Crane’s apartment | A less disrupted search and a meeting with Jack | Bluebeard reaches the Tweedles’ office first |
| Tweedles’ office | A chance to investigate with Flycatcher before Bluebeard interferes there | Crane’s apartment is damaged before your later visit |
| Trip Trap | Holly’s belongings and the personal lead there come first | Bluebeard still acts elsewhere; this does not freeze both other sites |
Choose the apartment if you want the Jack scene. Choose the office if you want the clearer early interaction with Flycatcher and the Tweedles’ files. This is an information-and-scene tradeoff, not a hidden good-versus-evil meter. The major choices guide compares it with the time-sensitive Lawrence decision from Episode 1.
How do the clues lead to Auntie Greenleaf?
At the Trip Trap, examine Lily’s belongings and speak with Holly and Gren. At the Tweedles’ office, search the files and desk, speak with Flycatcher, and investigate the package. At Crane’s apartment, examine the accessible possessions and handle the encounter with Jack if your route preserves it. The scenes connect Crane’s activity to an unregistered witch.
When you reach Auntie Greenleaf’s apartment, investigate the room and challenge the inconsistencies in the child’s presentation. The disguise is part of the mystery, so do not take the first explanation as conclusive. Once Greenleaf is exposed, the magic tree becomes a dispute over how Snow and Bigby should enforce Fabletown’s rules.
Should you burn the tree or spare Dum?
Burning the tree follows Snow’s demand to stop Greenleaf’s illegal operation. Sparing it prioritizes the witch’s livelihood and the community’s access to affordable magic. Either route continues the investigation; neither creates a shortcut that catches the entire criminal network. Choose the position your Bigby can defend.
The later confrontation gives you the option to kill or spare Dum. This is an irreversible character-fate choice in the original season. It is distinct from ordinary combat inputs and from a threat made in dialogue. The episode then demonstrates that Bigby’s opponents have forces he has not yet understood. Continue with Episode 4: In Sheep’s Clothing for the recovery and financial leads.
What supports these route distinctions?
